Ken Gardner with Gardner Energy has taught an in person solar water pumping class for the past sixteen years for Solar Energy International. He teaches seven different alternatives for moving water other than solar power. Included is the design and installation of hydraulic ram pumps. Ram pumps us falling water to push a small portion of the water to a higher elevation using the effects of water hammer. A minimum of 3 feet of fall to the pump permits approximately 5% of the water entering the ram pump to be pumped to an elevation of 200 feet above the pump

Included are examples of ram pump installations used for drip irrigation systems.
